With the introduction of a global curriculum for its affiliated schools overseas, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is starting a revolutionary journey.

An authoritative board official told PTI that the curriculum will be available in CBSE's foreign schools starting with the 2026–2027 school year.
"International schools which are currently affiliated to other boards will also have the choice to offer this curriculum and the same will apply to CBSE schools in India," said the official.
The official shared information about the proposed global curriculum, stating that it will compete with less rigid international boards like Cambridge International (CI) and International Baccalaureate (IB) for students with a global curriculum and pedagogy.
Since many of its components will be incorporated into the national curriculum, the CBSE local curriculum will also be included in the new global curriculum. The goal is to balance the offerings in accordance with international boards and the NCERT curriculum," the official stated.
The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, CI, or IB are the organisations that international schools are affiliated with, and CBSE does not currently offer any international curricula.
"This curriculum's introduction will broaden CBSE's educational offerings and give schools looking for a syllabus that is both globally aligned and flexible another option.
"In the upcoming months, CBSE will finalise its pedagogical framework and framework, poised to re-enter the global education market.
